A River Runs Through It
Where does your flow take you?
Saturday 06/04 Drop in from 13.00
Workshop 14.00–16.00
People’s History Museum, Left Bank, Manchester M3 3ER

Come and share with us your love of water – whether it’s about a river where you swim, or a boat containing some cherished memories. Together we will explore all things water, how we enjoy it, how it gives to us, and how we look after it. The inaugural canal laureate Jo Bell will be leading 2 poetry workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to help get our creative juices flowing. During the rest of the day, there will be water-y projects talked about and activities for you to take part in in your own time. Looking forward to meeting you there.

Jo Bell: Poet, Jo Bell was the inaugural Canal Laureate for the Canal & River Trust and The Poetry Society from 2013-2015. Jo was formerly an industrial archaeologist specialising in industrial remains like mines, railways… and canals. She discovered historic narrowboats and began writing poetry seriously at about the same time; and her career has since included running a fleet of historic narrowboats and acting as director of National Poetry Day for six years.

Ruth Sylvester: Ruth Sylvester is a PhD student at the University of Leeds, researching the social aspects of water insecurity in England & Wales. She works with canal boaters and river activists, and loves to find ways of connecting over preserving our waters. At the heart of her work is the nature of reciprocal relationships between humans and the natural world.
