Samuel Alexander Building, University of Manchester, Oxford Rd, Manchester M13 9PL

“Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought. The farthest external horizons of our hopes and fears are cobbled by our poems, carved from the rock experiences of our daily lives.” – Audre Lorde Dancing with strangers,
Dancing with strangers, floating in cool water head up to the sky, the moment of take-off on a plane - in which moments do you access a feeling of liberation? Starting with experiences in our everyday lives and working out into further social and political horizons, this creative writing workshop will use a series free-writing prompts to activate the imagination. We invite you to experiment with free verse and free writing following flows of thought to unexpected places to to energise visions of alternative futures and possibilities. The writing workshop is followed by an opportunity to share your writing in an open mic (theme: Liberation)

Rebecca Appleton is a postgraduate researcher at the University of Manchester, studying the role of poetry in women's lives in Beirut, Lebanon.
