ASA18 - The venue
Our central/main venue and the location of the reception desks, is the Examination Schools, which is located on High Street, in Oxford City Centre. Built between 1876 and 1882 and designed by Sir Thomas Jackson, this historical Grade II listed building was created to house the University of Oxford’s examinations, and is still used for this purpose and for regular lectures. The building stands on a part of the site of the 'Angel Inn', which is reputed to have been the first Inn in England. Each year thousands of students sit their exams in this building, which is commonly known as the 'Schools' and is normally not open to the public..
To reach the Examination Schools from Oxford railway station, take Bus no. 5 to Queens Lane bus stop, and cross the road. The Gloucester Green coach station is located within very short walking distance of the Examination Schools.
The Airline coach is the most convenient and fastest mode of travel from Heathrow and Gatwick airports to Oxford. These Airline coaches, as well as all buses/coaches from London stop directly in front of the Examination Schools at the High Street-Queens Lane bus stop, before proceeding to the final stop at Gloucester Green Coach Station.
During the conference we are also using All Souls College, Magdalen College, Queen Elizabeth House, the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Natural History Museuem, 58 Banbury Road, and Wolfson College for plenaries, panels and labs. See the map below for locations.
